Just who's unemployed Empty Just who's unemployed

Folks, I would like to explore some misconceptiuons about unemployment. I'm just thionkin' that there are two groups of people involved here: namely public sector employees and private sector employees. Over that last year or so, private sector employment has slowly improved while the public sector continues to decline. Now, if the goal of the Republican party (Romney/Ryan) is to reduce the size of government, would it not mean that those in the public sector would become more likely unemployed? thus adding to the unemployment rate. If private sector employment continues to grow, even slightly, would it be enought to off-set the public sec tor job losses? Since the political heads only refer to unemployment by one overall number (private & public) stating that unemployment is still above 8%, they fail to separate the two sectors for clarity. If Romney reduces the size of government as promised, would it not then increase the unemployment rate in our countyr. Private sector employment is doing better and that is where this country has the opportunity to regain economic stability. This of course is still at the whime of the global marketplace. Right now, Germany and China have stated that they will "bankroll" the global market. The result is the current raise in Wall Street. Be careful of the speculators cashing in at the end of the next quarter.

I'm not smart enough to understand global markets...but do feel gov needs to be reduced and waste stopped. I would imagine some of the public sector would become unemployed but hopefully there would be more jobs created that they could go into. We can't keep borrowing more and more $$ so somethings gotta be done.

One little overlooked point about why FDR created the Social Security Program was to induce the older generation to leave the workforce and thereby opening up jobs for those younger folks. What has happened is that we are living longer and staying in the workforce longer. It's not uncommon to see people in their late 60's or early 70's still working. Some because of the cost of living, medical benefits, or limited retirement funds. My three friends and I often find "elderly" people (women) bussing tables at McDonalds etc. They work part time, so there is little additional costs to the employer and they have some added income to make ends meet. Of course the other solution is to limit healthcare and hope they just die off quicker. affraid No

I think that a few do it to keep busy also. As for dying off quicker, I think a lot more people are making a living will stating what care they want when they become very ill instead of letting relatives choose for them. That way no guilt for the relatives and someone isn't kept alive beyond what they decide. It'd be a good idea to have that be manditory and a person could revise it as they see fit.
