When TV's go bad

Well folks, our old Visio Plasma 50" is going bad. So, my wife decided we needed to get a new one. First of all, I found that they do not "repair" TVs anymore. Okay, so much for replacing a tube or a knob that slips off when turning channels. So, I went in to check things out. Man, there's LED, LCD and some left-over Plasma TV out there. I paid almost $1,800 for our old TV and now find that you can get one for $500-$700. After some discussion with the wife (who thinks she knows everything) and several sales men (who know nothing) I came to the conclusion that I would get a Panasonic Plasma 50" TV. Now, I will be the first to admit that I know very little (nothing) about modern technology. However, the "salesman" said that anyone who can read directions can set it up one no time. That was kinda a backhanded remark considering I have two Master Degrees. Nevertheless, I got it home and called my SIL and Daughter to help set it up. I may be technologically ignorant; but, I'm no fool. So now the TV is up and running. My wife, in her effort to throw water on the success, pointed out that the picture was not of high quality. I tried to tell her that rather then getting the TV with 1080 pixcals, she decided to get the one with only 760. Okay, don't ask me about how many pixies the TV has. At any rate, the TV is working and the ol lady is apparently happy. Like they say: 'Happy wife, happy life."

Don't feel bad VOF. Our great grands pushed the on/off switch into the TV. So Mrd opened it up and he couldn't fix it so we put plastic over the hole and use the remote. But we bought a 39" HD TV before he didn't fix it and the picture isn't all that clear. My daughter informed us it's because we don't have HD in our Direct TV package.
He's been repairing the gas fireplace in the basement and he put a rocker switch in and marked one side red. Then last night he asked me which way would be off. So I said well now TV's have a little red light when they're off so.....HIM don't analyze it just tell me which way
would you think is off? Me...Well if it's not burning when I go up to it I'd figure whichever way the switch was would be off. HIM...I told you NOT to analyze it...shut up.

know what you mean. I replaced a light switch n the living room once. Put it in upside down. Up was now off and down was on. All the rest in the house are the opposite (Correct). Drove the wife nuts and threatened to call and electrician if I didn't change it.

Yeah, when we finished the basement we kinda over thunk the switches...starting down the stairs the hall light and then at the bottom the switch for the den plus the one to turn off or on the hall. I still get it wrong each time I go down there....but it made sense when we installed them.

Years ago my Dad installed one of those gadgets called "The Clapper". He put it in their bedroom to turn out the bed lamps. My Mother was using a C-pac breathing machine at the time. The first time Dad tried to turn out the lights, the C-pac" machine shut off and Mom almost suffocated before Dad realized what he had done. They got ride of it after that.

Yikes. I thought the clapper things were built into the lamps. Must be like the remotes we have that turn whatever is plugged into the "receiver" in the wall plug on or off. I like those...we have one on the china cabinet so we don't have to open the doors for the light and a few other places.
